About Me
I was born with Spina Bifida, a congenital condition that occurs in the early weeks of pregnancy
where the spinal column doesn't form properly. It can lead to major physical complications and has in my case.
Today, scans can detect the condition, but in the 1950s, this was not possible. Diagnosis
and treatment could only occur after birth.
One day, when I was 3 years old, doctors told my parents ahead of some vital surgery:
"if we can't remove the fluid on your son's spine, he may not survive!"
The doctors had BELIEF. They wouldn't accept the word "CAN'T"
and they SUCCEEDED!
And that's a philosophy that I've adopted throughout my life. Whenever anyone suggests I
can't do something, it's like waving a "Red Rag To A Bull"
and I'm inspired to show them that I can.
Now, 50 years on, I'd like to encourage you to join me and share that philosophy. You too
can overcome any obstacle in your way and achieve whatever you want in life.
After that major surgery as a young child, other doctors and surgeons over the years have helped
me have as healthy a life as possible. Starting with schooling while in hospital up to the age of 8, I've had a good
education which led to a University degree. I've had a successful career in the IT industry spanning 30 years and have
a happy social and family life, with my wife, Judith, and step son, Matthew.
Reflecting, therefore, on what I've been given, I now feel it's time to give back.
Let me share my experiences to inspire you to get involved with my
initiatives which you'll learn about elsewhere on this website.
