Accessibility Champion
I champion the cause that businesses will benefit financially from being more accessible.
Despite Disability Discrimination legislation in many countries which means that businesses have
a legal obligation to remove physical barriers that prevent disabled people accesssing products and services, I acknowledge
that it is often difficult to fully comply. However, that is no excuse for making no effort.
Improvements can often be made with minimal cost implications... and the benefits can be significant.
There is no reason why staff cannot be sufficiently trained to understand how to deal with disabled
customers and help them in a non-patronising way. In most cases, common sense applies.
Treat every customer as you would would want to be treated. Imagine how you would feel
if you had the customer's disability.
While I don't pretend to know every piece of legislation that applies in every country, take
advantage of my experience travelling all over the World and listen to some ideas which can help you:
- become more accessible
- attract more customers for whom access is important
- increase revenue as a result
