Disabled people aren't supposed to do extreme activities
like abseiling, are they? Why not? If you've got the nerve to do it, then there's no reason why you shouldn't
take part in an abseil event.
But they said I couldn't do it!
Remember that when anyone tells me I can't do something, it's like a "Red Rag To A Bull" and I'm determined to show them that I can.
In January 2007, I wanted to take part in a Tyne Bridge abseil event for charity. When I applied, I was told I couldn't do so.
I was determined to overcome their objections,
which turned out to be the fact that I would need a scaffolding platform to make the descent.
While this wasn't available for that particular event, it was available
for an event run in May 2007 organised by Disabiity North, a Newcastle-based charity helping disabled people.
